Justice Action Center on U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021: No Time to Waste on Immigration Reform

LOS ANGELES — Senator Menendez (D-NJ) and Representative Sanchez (D-CA) introduced the U.S. Citizenship Act, a legislative proposal that would reform our nation’s immigration system and provide a real route to lawful status and citizenship for millions of immigrants and aspiring immigrants. Below is a reaction from Karen Tumlin, founder and director of Justice Action Center:

“Too many of our neighbors, family members, friends, and colleagues have been shut out of any process to become citizens of this country, while the federal government continues to spend billions detaining and deporting immigrants. This makes no sense.

“The proposal introduced today would go a long way to fixing our nation’s attitude toward immigration, and finally recognize something all of us know: that immigrants are home. We’re grateful to the immigrant leaders who envisioned this policy solution, and we will work shoulder to shoulder with them in their tireless fight for dignity and justice for our communities and country.

“In the meantime, we will continue to advocate in the courts on behalf of aspiring Americans like Golden, whose fate — along with the fate of others still exiled by Trump-era immigration bans — will be discussed in a court hearing today. Now is the time for transformation. We are ready for real action on both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue.”
