FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Los Angeles – A shooting into an ICE facility this morning left at least two people dead and others injured, according to authorities. Details of the incident are still developing, but authorities have confirmed that the people killed were detained immigrants. This tragic news comes amid an uptick in political violence, including, most recently, the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Below is a statement from Karen Tumlin, founder and director of Justice Action Center:
“Our hearts break for my home state and for the people of Dallas right now. All human lives are precious. People awoke this morning to news that they lost their loved ones due to a revolting act of violence. This is a developing story and much remains unclear, but I know this to be true: political violence of any kind is not only unacceptable and immoral, but deeply harmful to those of us who advocate for a society in which we all can thrive. As an organization that advocates in the courtroom every day, we know that our words can only be truly effective if people feel free and safe to use them. Each act of political violence silences more of us. No one should be fearful for their lives or safety because of their jobs or their political beliefs. To advocate fiercely for our views, we must condemn with every fiber of our being any violence based on people’s beliefs. We stand in solidarity with the many leaders on both sides of the aisle working to bring us together during this fragile time.”
